Highlights of this year’s arts week include a village hall performance. The artist is yet to be confirmed but we are hoping it will be the children’s stand-up comic James Campbell. We are planning storytelling in the libraries for younger children and we are also exploring new links with book clubs and writing groups for adults. Ideas for children/family workshops are now being discussed. Currently under review are musical instruments, Halloween costumes, mask making, lantern making, and flag making. Last year’s adult sessions were popular so we intend to repeat card making, ceramics (outdoor lantern for the garden) and handmade jewellery. This year, we plan to hold a finale on the Friday (Halloween) featuring a procession through a park to exhibit work made during the week at various workshops.
It’s not too late to enter the painting, drawing and mixed media competition. Open to all those who live and work in the Northern Parishes (Binfield, Warfield and Winkfield), but not professional artists, the competition will be judged by an independent and respected artist. The theme is Local Space. Entries will be judged in 3 categories ages: 5-11, 12-18 and adult. Prizes and certificates will be awarded for the best works. Works should be no larger than 420 x 594 mm and should be mounted or framed ready for hanging as they will be exhibited at the Arts and Crafts Exhibition which will run Friday 31 October to 2 November at the Brownlow Hall, Newell Green. In addition, all visitors to the exhibition will be able to take part in a public vote to nominate their favourite work, the result will be declared at the end of the exhibition on Sunday 2 November. Entry and exhibitors application forms are available from the Parish Office or web site. Please note exhibitors application forms need to be completed by Friday, 4 July 2008.
